ON TREND: FASHION FAVORITES OF SUMMER 2020
When we think of summer, it’s usually filled with beaches, bathing suits and pretty, flow-y dresses. However, summer looks a bit different this year. While we all do our best to #stayhome, and #staysafe, we are seeing a lot more Loungewear, Joggers and… for the first time, masks? (anyone else feel a bit like Handmaid’s Tale?)
All kidding aside, we wanted to compile some of our favorite fashion trends of this summer. Just because we are staying home, doesn’t mean we can’t look cute doing it.

THE TREND: THE VINTAGE T SHIRT + ________ COMBO
A vintage T shirt paired with… anything really. It’s a classic. The important thing is that the shirt is soft. The touch test is a real thing. Here are some of our favorites right now along with some pairings.
THE TREND: WORK FROM HOME
The ultimate! Remember when it became social acceptable to wear yoga pants.. pretty much anywhere?? Life-changing! So any excuse to stay in our cozyies all day is fine by me.
DON’T FORGET: THE EXTRAS
Shoes, Hats, Jewelry, Sunnies… oh, and don’t forget your mask…

MEET JASON GRANT: STYLIST, DESIGNER AND AUTHOR
I met Jason (and his adorable Boston Terrier, Sophia) on a beautiful Saturday morning in Byron Bay, Australia. After being a fan, and following his work for many months, I was excited for the opportunity to meet IRL for coffee and talk all things design and career. After chatting for an hour and joking about making our own podcast one day, I knew Jason was someone that you all needed to meet too.

One of the many things I love about Jason is how multi-faceted he is. He’s not afraid of a challenge. to have his hands in a little bit of everything. In a world that is constantly telling you to focus on one or two things, Jason is breaking barriers and becoming a master of them all. Not only that, his laid back and good vibes make it easy for him to become one of those instant friends - right from the moment you meet.

“Style comes from within and with confidence. The best way to learn is by doing, comparison is never a good headspace and try to not limit yourself.” - Jason Grant
What’s a typical day look like for you? No one day is ever really the same but lucky I love variety.
What keeps you inspired? I’m always inspired by nature. The bush, the beach and the ocean. We are spoiled here in Australia.. the light here is magic. I love to learn and I’m always researching something. I’m also always inspired by creators and artists, often friends, who make things with their hands.
What is your style philosophy? Style comes from within and with confidence. The best way to learn is by doing. Comparison is never a good headspace. Try to not limit yourself.
What song is a “must” for a road trip playlist? “70s Roadtrip” on Spotify is the best! Generally, fun upbeat music is my vibe but I often don’t like being the DJ (in charge of the music) because I love listening to other people’s music.
What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you? I was born in Launceston (Tasmania) and grew up in Melbourne, but my career “blew up” when I lived in Bondi Beach in Sydney.
Favorite thing to do when you visit California? I love LA (and Palm Springs too!)
I have always felt at home in LA; the people, the vibe, the energy.. and I really love an America accent. It’s one of my most favourite places to visit and I have thought long and hard about living there one day (hoping my future husband-to-be will be from there maybe)
When in town I love to visit friends (I have a heap of local friends and also ex pat Aussies living in LA), go for a hike - I love the view from Griffith observatory. Of course, a little shopping (mostly vintage)
I also love the many different types of architecture in Los Angeles. I love walking the streets in certain neighbourhoods and looking at the buildings (I do this where ever I go).
What’s next for you? I have a few things happening this year 10 new paint colours to my signature paint collection with Murobond Paints, some new additions to my encaustic tile collection with Dilorenzo Tiles plus 2 exciting projects that I can’t say just yet.

A GALENTINE'S DAY PARTY: Inspired by Parks and Recreation
This GALentines party shows just how fun, sweet and meaningful your long-lasting friendships are. Some of the greatest loves of your life are with your besties!
I got the idea of Galentine's Day from the show Parks and Recreation. I am a huge Amy Poehler fan and if you watch the show you know her character is so hilarious, driven to succeed, and loves her girlfriends! They throw a Galentine's day party on February 13th to celebrate and appreciate their ladyhood and friendships. The first time I saw it I knew I needed a Galentine's Day party one day. :)
This shoot was a really sweet and fun representation of how meaningful and long-lasting your friendships are. Some of the greatest loves of your life are with your besties. :)
Do you watch the show? If not the first Galentine's Day episode is Season 2, episode 16. Check it out!
Happy Galentine's Day!

Don't Compare Your Love
This technology take-over has been on my mind a lot lately. I got to thinking about love and social media and our constant keeping up with everybody. I think it's honestly making people less happy in their relationships. (I'm sure I'm not the only one who has come to this conclusion).
This technology take-over has been on my mind a lot lately. I got to thinking about love and social media and our constant keeping up with everybody. I think it's honestly making people less happy in their relationships. (I'm sure I'm not the only one who has come to this conclusion).
Think about it; you're in a relationship- the first few weeks, months, maybe even a year you get to snap shots of the bliss you're in, post kissing pictures, pictures of all the places he or she takes you, and you get to change your relationship status on FaceBook (FB official- it's a real thing). The beginning of a relationship is always great (if it's bad from the get-go...RUN!)
But then, real life starts happening, especially at the age of 25+. Family problems, money problems, you notice he doesn't hang his wet towels and he rubs his toes together weirdly when he watches TV. Before you know it, you're sitting there with a few problems in your relationship, staring at his toes with your eye twitching, while just casually checking your Facebook. You see post after post of "happy", so "in-love" couples and you start to think, "I deserve that! Why don't I have that?" And you start to trick yourself!
It's an epidemic! Two things happen: It turns people selfish in their relationships and it starts a pattern of forever-chasing that picture perfect bliss.
So #1: The selfishness - When you see pictures of all the things you don't have, you start to get bitter and completely miss what you do have. I feel like people start to think I don't get this and I don't get that, when any good relationship partner focuses on what they can give. It's all about giving, y'all. Don't worry it's not your fault- when you see pictures of girls getting roses every freaking day, you are bound to be like, "Wait...I like roses..." But let it go! And honestly, if you want more roses, give more roses! The person you are with will catch on.
And #2: The Pattern- Social media is like a poison to your relationship if you don't regulate it. Sounds dramatic, but it's true. When you're mushy, gushy stage is over and you hit the real stuff, the nitty-gritty, dig down deep, unconditional love stuff; people bail! Then what do we see? The next mushy-gushy stage with another dude/dudette 5 weeks later. Then repeat. It isn't healthy. You can't chase that feeling forever, well yes, actually you can, but if you stuck it out, you'd see the feeling, after the hard stuff, is when you feel a person's love and it's pretty remarkable.
The point is social media is the greatest tool to compare. That's all we're really ever doing on there. Comparing our lives to other people's. And I'm just saying, stop.
Don't compare your love to any one else's. Not on the web and not in real life. All kinds of love last. There are the high school sweet hearts, the college best friends, the co- workers, the couple that met on an airplane and got married 2 weeks later, the guy that cheated, but his wife forgave him and now they're happier than ever, the couple that argues all the time, the couple that never argues or even raises their voices, the person that said they'd never get married and now they are your token married friend, the person who dated countless faces and finally found the right one, the old woman and young guy, the couple that got pregnant at 15 and have been married 40 years, the bad guy and the good girl, the snobby, yachting couple, the homeless couple, the couple that "never should have made it," because they went through too much, but there they are, there they all are; happy!!
Your love is your love. Only hold it to your heart's standards. If your heart is happy, forget the rest. Forget the statistics, what "usually" happens, the judgements, the eyes of disapproval. That doesn't matter. Your hearts happiness matters. So quit comparing your love and just live it.

CDMX: Goodbye Folk, The Vintage Store that Left Us Wanting More.
One of my favorite things to do in a new city is to check out the vintage and thrift store scene so when I was wandering around the Roma Norte area in Mexico City, I was so stoked to find this place. If you’re a vintage clothing fan like me, you MUST stop here.
One of my favorite things to do in a new city is to check out the vintage and thrift store scene so when I was wandering around the Roma Norte area in Mexico City, I was so stoked to find this place. If you’re a vintage clothing fan like me, you MUST stop here. Chilled, cool, urban, grunge - That’s what this place exhales within its walls of re-labelled (all the clothes have been labelled with the Goodbye name), spruced up and mint condition collection of vintage gems. My personal favorite is the shoe collection; old-school brogues, bright coloured 80’s master pieces and more! Plan your stop here wisely, as you’ll almost certainly spend a lot of time, and money here. And don’t worry, if you can’t make it to Mexico City, they have free shipping to the U.S. and Canada.
P.S. whoever runs their social media is top notch. If nothing else, follow them for some major #vintageinspo

The 5 Best "You Have to Try This!" Restaurants in Mexico City (CDMX)
There is no denying that the food in Mexico City can rivel some of the best in the world. But I only want to tell you about the place I experienced, first hand. These are my five MUST go to places (i’m sure there are countless more) that you have to try.

LARDO
Agustín Melgar 6, Colonia Condesa,
06140 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico
This chic daytime cafe strikes a great balance between Mexican influences and more familiar dishes. For breakfast, the black rice porridge with mango is delicious, as well as the poached eggs in red sauce. They also serve an assortment of teas and homemade nut milks for your coffee. The interior is beautiful and I almost attempted to steal one of the stools and bring it back in my carry on.

2. CONTRAMAR
Calle de Durango 200, Roma Nte.,
06700 Cuauhtémoc, CDMX, Mexico
Everything is homemade or fresh at Contramar, where you'll taste the best tuna tostadas of your life. Set aside a little time for the line outside (it's worth the wait) and a little more for the menu—you're gonna want to try a bit of everything.
food photos by: Jess Chiou
3. HANKY PACKY
Turín, Juárez, 06600
Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico
I’ll probably get some grief over sharing this one, considering it’s a speakeasy. You’d never know it existed if you just walked down the street. My instructions (the night i went) was to look for a place with pinatas hanging. Really?! How generic! But this place was so cool! Once i found it (yes, it was a bit of a challenge) - the freezer door opened and voila! A world beneath the world. 100% worth the effort.
4. FREIMS
Amsterdam 62B,
Hipódromo, 06100 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico
Let’s start with the outdoor space - A big area enclosed by a muraled wall that only features local artists - it’s a fine way to work whilst still going some fresh air and sunshine. The inside is just as impressive, with two little areas where you can buy books or vinyls, white marble tables (with power outlets underneath) and ultra comfy velvet seats. The menu here is incredibly varied, so if it’s one of those busy work days, start off with a coffee and waffles, followed by a salad, hamburger or sandwich, and finish with another coffee and danish.. job well done!

5. Loose Blues
Calle Dinamarca 44, Juárez,
06600 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico
Loose blues is one of my favorite boutiques in the neighborhood, it is vintage, unique, and perfectly curated by the owners of the place: Jacky (Mexico) and Shota (Japan). They both run the place and are always willing to give great fashion advice. This small boutique has a basement for men; the ground level for vinyl records, zines and other publications; the first floor is for women. At the end of the store, you’ll find a stairway that will take you directly to Loose Blues Dining, they serve amazing food and drinks. It’s open daily.

Rocking that Festival Style for Spring
When April & May rolls around and the music festivals are underway, it's like the kickoff to warmer weather has officially begun. That means the start of effortless chic beach/boho style and all the light cotton layers a gal could ask for.
When April & May rolls around and the music festivals are underway, it's like the kickoff to warmer weather has officially begun. That means the start of effortless chic beach/boho style and all the light cotton layers a gal could ask for.
Living in San Diego of all places, you’d have thought that I would have hit the beach fairly often. But as with living in any city, after a while you tend to get into the grind and often forget about the beauty that’s right around you. This season, make it a point to take advantage of the fabulous weather & casual festival/beach vibe with these 5 pieces that will have you rocking chic beach style in no time!
Here are 5 of my favorite beach styles that make up my wardrobe during the warmer months of spring & summer:
1 | Sandals | Leather strappy sandals are some of my most favorite. They not only pair well with anything from shorts to dresses, but they last forever! If you decide to invest in a pair, one of my favorites comes from J.Crew. But for a fun faux pair, try Target, they always have knockoffs that are “on trend” beach styles during the summer months.
2 | Flowy Cotton Dresses | Maxi dresses, shift dresses, any dress that seems to flow with the ocean currents. Those are the beach style dresses I love. They’re easy to pull off when the splashing in the water comes calling and they’re great to wear when strolling around town.
3 | Espadrilles | Another fun summer favorite shoe of mine. Lately, Saludos has had some hilariously cute styles and they are relatively affordable. I also love espadrilles with a rise and wear these constantly.
4 | Hats | Oh how I love summer time hats. Fedoras, floppys, they are perfect paired with a dress and not to mention to keep the sun off that gorgeous face of yours. Nothing says beach style like throwing on a great summer hat.
5 | Easy Summer Shorts | My favorites are a simple pair of jean shorts. I wear them to death in the summer and they are perfect to layer over a swimsuit. My favorites (because they’re affordable & comfy) come from Gap & Target. Spending a lot on jean shorts isn’t something I want to do!

Peach Caprese Salad
I’ve got a good-as-it-is-easy “non-recipe” type recipe for you (whew – got that?!) on this hot and sizzling summer day: Peach Caprese Salad. This salad is next-level, people!
I’ve got a good-as-it-is-easy “non-recipe” type recipe for you (whew – got that?!) on this hot and sizzling summer day: Peach Caprese Salad. This salad is next-level, people!
Everyone keeps asking me if I’m hot being this pregnant in the summertime, to which I answer, a.) Yes. Fan me. and b.) but at least the weather isn’t like it was last year when we hit a record number of consecutive days over 100 degrees. Now those ladies were the real warriors!
Regardless, I think we’ve officially hit the dog days of summer, and while it’s extra sweaty with this bowling ball strapped to my torso, I still love it. I’ll take hot over cold any day of the year. I’m still no fan of heating up the kitchen when I don’t have to though, which is just one of the many reasons why I”m head over heels in love with this no-cook recipe that’s ready in 15 minutes. Peach Caprese Salad is so, so, so good!
Fresh mozzarella cheese is layered with juicy yellow peach slices, thick-cut tomatoes, and lots of fresh basil leaves then drizzled with good extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and sprinkled with salt and pepper. This is the ultimate summer meal. Light and refreshing. And that unexpected hit of sweet from the peach is unbelievable with the salty, savory flavors in the classic caprese salad. Promise me you’ll try this!
Start by raiding your farmers’ market, garden, or grocery store for the best ripe peaches and tomatoes, and fresh-plucked basil leaves you can find, then pick up a fresh mozzarella cheese ball. This salad is best using tomatoes and peaches that are on the verge of use or lose. Super juicy, sweet, and ripe, ripe, ripe.
If your peaches are still a little hard when you buy them place them in a paper bag, roll down the top, then let ’em veg in the dark for a day or so.
Slice said ripe tomatoes and peaches into thick slices, then do the same with the mozzarella cheese. I like to pop my mozzarella into the freezer for 10-15 minutes to make it easier to slice.
Layer the tomato, peach, and cheese slices with a couple slices of basil, then drizzle with the best extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar you have. I used the strawberry balsamic vinegar I got in Chicago a few months ago, which was incredible. Reduced balsamic vinegar would be fantastic too – I hear Trader Joe’s makes a pretty good version if you don’t want to make your own. Finish with a heavy dash of both salt and pepper, then enjoy!
Peach Caprese Salad
serves 2
Ingredients
6oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
1 ripe yellow peach, sliced thick
1 vine-ripened tomato, sliced thick
12 leaves fresh basil
good extra virgin olive oil
good balsamic vinegar (or reduced balsamic vinegar)
salt & pepper
Directions
Layer mozzarella cheese slices with peaches, tomatoes, and basil. Drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar then sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Sweet, creamy, tangy, and fresh. This plate is ALL the best things about summer. Make and enjoy this sweet & savory salad often!

THE TREND: COLOR POPPIN'
Summer calls for color. And as a resident of foggy San Francisco, I admit that I tend to wear too much black. What can I say, sometimes I forget that it’s summer here!

Summer calls for color. Wait...Did I say Summer? It's the first of September?! Yes, I did. It's still summer people! Fall fashions might be knocking on your door but it's not too late to get the last of your summer wardrobe on your rotation.
As a resident of foggy San Francisco, I admit that I tend to wear too much black. What can I say, sometimes I forget that it’s summer here! I was beyond excited when this blue dress came into our inventory at the office. It is such a flattering shape and a beyond amazing color, I couldn’t wait to wear it. Not only can you pair it with a blazer for the office, but you can also dress it up for a wedding with nude heels and statement jewelry.
For a day in my casual office environment, I threw on my favorite denim jacket (seriously, if you don’t own a denim jacket...go buy one asap) and finished it off with fire engine red pumps. With all of the color involved in this outfit, it was important to keep my accessories simple, I wanted the dress and the shoes to speak for themselves!

Leah kept with the theme of her friend's fun and colorful personality by hosting the weekend at the Saguaro in Palm Springs, the most colorful hotel in the desert. Fruit Infused Ice Cubes for the Summer
I'm always trying to think of ways to dress up drinks, especially when you’re having summer parties! These summer fruit infused ice cubes are the perfect addition to any cocktail, mocktail, or just plain old water.
Photography by Ashley Williams
Happy Summer!!
My favorite time of year! During summer, I am definitely in the mood for entertaining, long beach days, bright fun colors, and refreshing beverages (wellI'll take one of those all year round, just saying..)
I'm always trying to think of ways to dress up drinks, especially when you’re having summer parties! These summer fruit infused ice cubes are the perfect addition to any cocktail, mocktail, or just plain old water. I made a huge batch of these and have been popping them in my La Croix sparkling grapefruit water. Best summer drink ever! If you're having a party or happy hour, pour a shot or 2 of vodka and you got your self the most refreshing, summery cocktail! Love it!
These adorable ice cubes are so simple to make. Hardly no prep time, you just have to wait for the water to freeze and there ya have it! Pick a couple of your favorite summer fruits. I am a huge fan of pineapple and strawberries, so that's what I chose, but any fruit would be great! (watermelon, berries, kiwi, etc)
♥ Fill an ice cube tray with a piece or 2 of fruit. (I love this chunky ice cube tray because it makes large square ice, and I really only pop 1 or 2 into a drink and you're good to go)
♥ Fill with water
♥ Pop into the freezer over night
♥ Serve in your fav summer drink!
What are some of your favorite things to do/make in the summer??
XO Melissa ♥

Hey Est. California Readers!
Amber and Kayla here of Dulcet Creative! We are here today excited to teach you a few simple styling tips that we’ve learned this year that we hope will help you with styling your images. Styling is a tool with unlimited possibilities. If you’re a business you can use these tips to help you create a cohesive visual presence and help people to get to know you and your products better. If this is your first time souping up a shot, this will guide you through. In time, you’ll get faster and more daring as your styling mind develops! The end result will be beautiful, creative photos that not only showcase YOU, but also provide attention-grabbing images to show off in blogs, social media, newsletters or anywhere you find a promotional photo op!
#1. Choose your colors:
Choose one or two colors to weave through your scene in order to keep a cohesive visual harmony throughout your image. Choose your colors according to the message you want to convey. If you’re looking to create a fun, summer look, then use pops of bold color here and there to make a statement and use neutral colors for a more mellow, understated look. While there are times when all white on white can be visually striking, it is also fun to look for backgrounds that create contrast. So a pale colored food and plate gets a dark background whereas a vibrantly colored dish tends to be best with a simple white background.
#2. Keep it fresh:
You will rarely ever see a scene that we’ve styled without some kind of fresh element like fruit or greenery. Adding those pops of flowers or plants will breathe life into your images.
#3. Liven things up
Get a few work-in-progress shots. Bringing hands into your scene will add a human element that makes things more personal and real.
#4. Create Balance
Start simple and add more props for complexity. Play around with different lines, varieties of dark and light colors, lights and shadows, and so on until you find what you like. Your main focus will be to balance the different elements in order to create a pleasing aesthetic to the eye while keeping everything consistent with your brand and products. As always, trust your judgment and continue to step back and reassess to continually get a sense of what emotion you are looking to evoke.
Don’t be afraid to play around with white space. Set your props around the edges, or corners of your picture. This comes in handy if you ever put text over your images for website or blog purposes.

Getting Started is the Hardest Part
You hear people say it often: “Getting started is the hardest part.” Whether it is in reference to a diet, working out, a project; we can mostly agree that getting started on anything that puts you out of your comfort zone is no easy task.
After going to school and starting our “grown up jobs”, we both felt this mutual desire for something more. We dreamed of a place where we could use our talents and our passions to their full capacities, a place where we felt as though we were working towards something bigger than ourselves… We dreamed of being a part of a creative community that would challenge and inspire us. We were searching for something that we could not find and our response to this was to create it for ourselves. After deciding on the name DULCET which is sometimes defined as sweet, we coined this dream life of ours as “the sweeter life”.
Today we are truly living “the sweeter life”. We have both quit our jobs to pursue DULCET full time and are thrilled to say that our careers reflect our passion for the first time in our lives. We are finally doing what we truly love. Like most good things though, it hasn’t come easy. We want to share with you a little bit about the trials and frustrations that we experienced in the beginning of our journey and equip you with some of our tips for success if you are in the process of starting your own.
You hear people say it often: “Getting started is the hardest part.” Whether it is in reference to a diet, working out, a project; we can mostly agree that getting started on anything that puts you out of your comfort zone is no easy task. Procrastination, perfectionism, insecurity, fear and apathy are just a few of the issues we had to face when launching our business. What began with wild excitement could have easily ended in devastation if we didn’t learn how to deal with these frustrating barriers to success.
We realized quickly that starting your own business is like volunteering to take a ride on an emotional rollercoaster. For every tinge of excitement you feel there is a load of fear of the unknown that drops on your head like an anvil. For every all-nighter we spent dreaming about the exciting possibilities ahead of us there was a day full of troubleshooting web coding and trying to translate what the tech support representative was explaining to us on the other line. We spent days questioning ourselves and were constantly questioned by others as we tried to put our vision into words and paint a picture for people about what it would look like when we were finished. We got crazy looks and responses like “well… I hope that works out for ya” with a questioning shrug. We were not always supported in our pursuit. Then throw in a dash of insecurity and an aptitude to constantly compare yourself to the incredible talent in the world around you and you are questioning your dream of making “the sweeter life” your reality in no time.
We say all this not to scare you straight but to give you a fair warning about what you are up against and to let you know that if you feeling a little worn out or lost in the chaos; you are not alone.
After months of brainstorming, idea mapping, planning and strategizing, we ultimately came to the conclusion that if we waited until we had every detail of our business figured out than we would never get started. So we gave the perfectionist side of our brains a break and we just jumped in full force before all of our ducks were in a row. Looking back now, that leap of faith we took was the absolute best decision we have made this far.
So now, one year in, we almost feel like we are past the starting line. We have sharpened many of our skills throughout this past year and have added a lot of new ones to our skillset. We survived the trying first few months and would love to share some things that we learned in the process!
If you are considering pursuing a new endeavor:
1. Don’t do it alone.
Accountability is key. Use a friend, spouse or loved one not only as a sounding board for your ideas but as an accountability partner that will hold you to your commitments and help you to follow through with your ideas.
We had each other to keep motivated and without that we know for a fact DULCET would not exist today. There is power in numbers, people!
2. Write it down.
The ideas, the lessons, the doubts, the concerns, the triumphs; document it.
The beginning, like we said, is a whirlwind of emotion filled with highs and lows. Writing was a great way for us to sort through the web of ideas and feelings that was bombarding our minds.
3. Simplify the dream.
If you are anything like us, you are the visionary type. We get a thrill off of BIG, unthinkable dreams but the thought of doing the tactical work required to bring the vision to life makes us shudder. Take as much time as you need to slowly break down the big goals into small, realistic daily tasks. Once you have simplified the dream, half the battle is won.
4. Don’t compare yourself.
It can be so hard not to compare what you are producing to someone who is more experienced, has a clearer vision, has more cohesive branding or a larger following than you. There is a constant temptation to compare and that will always exist unless you have found a way to overcome that completely (fill us in on how to accomplish this if you have mastered it!) but for goodness sakes at least give yourself a break when you are just starting out!!
5. Be Positive!
It sounds cheesy and so obvious but it is way easier than you think to get down on yourself and go negative. We can’t tell you how many times we exchanged text messages to each other that said something like:
“WE ARE AWESOME… WE GOT THIS… WE CAN’T LOSE!!”
It became our little joke to be overly dramatic about every minor triumph throughout the process but in the end, it became something that was so necessary for our success. We pumped each other up and spewed out pep talks as much as possible. It brought us closer and made the whole process so much more fun.
If you are considering pursuing a new endeavor, we hope these tips were helpful and if you have any questions on this topic please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at info@dulcetcreative.com!
Love love love,
Kayla & Amber
THE TREND: Nautical Summer Stripes
One of the classic summer trends that says so much about our heritage is the nautical summer stripe. In summer, especially around the 4th of July, the perfect holiday outfit is the all American summer stripe.

3 Quick Ways to Style the Nautical Summer Stripe Dress
1 | classic || mix it with classic, red, white, & blue. Any easy way to incorporate the red is with a great striped bag like this one here!
2 | bold || throw in a pop of color with a hint of neon in your accessories for a bold kick rather than the traditional red, white, and blue
3 | layering || style it with a great jean jacket, or throw on a linen scarf for the cool of the summer evenings.

Get ready for a lot of “Canadian Tuxedos” here on Established California. I adore pairing denim on denim and this look is no exception. The key to pairing a denim or chambray top with jeans, is to make sure the washes are slightly different. For this particular look, my faded black skinny jeans were the perfect complement to this light wash Sam Edelman button up. Accessories are key as well.
Don’t over do your look, add a printed and colorful scarf to the look and simple shoes. And you can’t forget the best accessory of all...an adorable pup. Meet Bear! He is our co-founder’s dog and he is a constant staple around our office. We have 7 office dogs (including my family pup!) who make appearances, but Bear has been our constant. Any excuse to take that handsome guy out for a walk, photo shoots included, is fine by me!

These products will replenish your skin, exfoliate, and moisturize like no other, all while leaving you smelling like a damn coconut!
Check it:
NONILove Bath and Body Coconut Scrub: This luxurious coconut scrub gently exfoliates your skin after you have had a long day at the beach and in the sun. You want your skin to be soft and glowing, not leathery and dull. This scrub brightens your skin with that summer glow. True story, I got my mom this for Mother's Day and she raved about how smooth and good her skin felt. Exfoliating evens out your skin tone, fights signs of aging, helps with breakouts, reduces the appearance of stretch marks, etc. This is a summer must have!
Paradise Bath Salts: I love to take a hot bath with epson salts and a little lavender oil after a long day of being on my feet. These paradise bath salts allow you to escape to the islands while you soak your body in the luxurious scents of coconut, guava, and citrus. The salts pull out toxins, leaving you relaxed and cleansed. This might be more of a winter ritural since it's getting hot, but I'm down for a spa bath any time of year :)
SPF 15 Shea butter Lip balm: Hydrate and protect your lips with this all natural lip balm. You guys know how I feel about protecting your lips, so you kinda get a win win with this yummy chapstick. It smells SO good guys!
Unite Eurotherapy Travel 7 Second leave in conditioner: This cute little travel size conditioner is perfect to spritz in your hair after swimming in the salt water, which can be very drying to your locks. Throw this in your beach bag and you're good to go! It's the perfect prep for shiny, soft, healthy hair

Do you know what's the absolute worst? Heading out for a beach day and forgetting your beach essentials. So I have got you babes covered with my top favs to throw in your beach bag. You don't want to be stuck on the beach without some good sunscreens or cute hat.
So first things first is the bag. This adorable tribal bag is big enough to fit all your loot. And if your anything like me, you carry your life in your bag! This tote is from Nena & Co and screams Summer.
Sunscreen→ ladies this is a must!!! You HAVE to protect your skin! Nobody wants to look like leathery Linda, so make sure to lather that shit on like it's your job. I usually have 103275 different kinds of sunscreen in my bag, but have recently fallen in love with Coola! They're an organic sun care line that caters to all you beach babes. With all natural scents like citrus mimosa, pina colada, and cucumber, this anti-oxidant infused screen is no joke. I don't leave home without it. I love the convenient sport spray bottle and I use a matte finish face sunscreen too. It has ingredients that are amazing for your face like natural rose hip oil, vitamin C for that glow, flaxeed oil, shea butter ( I could go on and on) and it won't clog pores or leave your face shiny. Make sure your sunscreen has at least SPF 30.
Talking about face protection brings me to your lips! Remember this post on Protecting those lippys? It's so important to put chapstick on your lips with SPF in it. I developed a dark freckle on my lip from not wearing protection when I lived in Hawaii. SPF will protect you from getting dry, chapped lips also. This Surface pink lemonade is my favorite. I put it on every single day, even if I don't think I'm going to be in the sun. It smells delish and uses the finest all natural ingredients. Zinka is also another fav and they come in cute colors too! This waterproof pink zink oxide tube is the perfect shade of summer pink. It's great for you surfer babes!
Sunglasses: Your beach outfit is never complete without a hot pair of shades! My girlfriend Ashley introduced me to the brand CRAP. They have high quaily, fun shades to go with any look you're going for. I love the beachy reflection vibe of these sunnies! Also polarized will provide more protection for your eyes, so when available, go with polaroid.
Having a cute floppy or trucker hat is a beach must have for me. Most of these items offer some form of protection. Hey that sun is brutal, and if your going to bask like a lizard you need to protect your whole body pretty much. This Roxy floppy hat and Leucadia trucker hat are too cute. And we like to keep it local DUH!
Coconut Seasalt texturizing spray: This is a new DIY I have been working on that I will share soon, but I have concocted my own sea-salt mist for those beach waves we all love. I like to throw this in my beach bag in case I take the beach to the bar and need a quick pick me up for my rats nest. This sea-salt spray is infused with conditioning coconut oil and sea salt, which will give your hair that tousled beachy look.
Summer Reads: My most favorite thing to do is go plop my booty down on the beach for hours and read a good book while my buns are bronzing! #Girlboss and Yes Please by Amy Poehler are Summer must reads!
You obviously need a cute bikini! This adorable rainbow top is from Pacific and Driftwood and is embellished with a sexy mesh detail . The peach braided bottoms are from Guria and are the perfect summer color on bronzed skin. You can find this rocking bikini along with all your other summer essentials at NONILove in Leucadia. Cutest store ever, and have you seen their jewelry? The handmade 14 caret gold peace sign choker below will be part of a giveaway so stay tuned! Dainty accessories are always cute at the beach
Now you girlies are all set to hit the beach in style and stay protected from a burn. It's all fun and games until your walking around with blisters and flaking skin (no bueno)
What are some beach bag must-have'S THAT you babes like? Share!
XO Melissa ♥
P.S. You KNOW you will be finding some snacks and beverages up in my beach bag too!! Also, this cute green Mexican-style blanket is perfect for the beach because it's big, comfy, and you and all your girlfriends or boyfriend can cuddle on it :)
