A DIY PROJECT FOR ANY INDOOR OR OUTDOOR SPACE
Repurpose an old pallet to create a vertical garden and fill it with any plants you please.

YOU WILL NEED
Pallet; ruler; pencil; saddle clips; drill with phillips head drill bit & screws that are less than the depth of the pallet planks; plant pots.
STEP 1
Lay pallet on floor right side up. Work out where you want your saddle clips to sit and mark straight lines between the planks, as shown.
STEP 2
Position the saddle clips along the lines and screw in place with drill.
STEP 3
Prop pallet up and slide pot plants into saddle clips. Hang the pallet hanger on the wall using wall hooks or simply lean it against the wall.
TIP
Stretch or compress the saddle clips to suit the plant pot size before attaching to the pallet.
A Succulent Love Affair: Five Tips for a Successful Relationship

LIFESTYLE TIPS FOR THE HOME
Post contributed by Nora Allen
Where do I begin with my love affair of succulents? They are one of the best relationships to have. It’s a low maintenance relationship, requiring very little attention. It doesn’t complain about my busy schedule, in fact, they fit right in with it! And they come in options; you don’t have to settle on just one. Most importantly, like me, they prove big things can come in small packages! I love what an impact they make no matter what the size. The list of reasons goes on and on.
If you are new to a relationship with succulents, here are some pointers to help ease you into your newfound love. The beginning of what promises to be a great relationship!
Our cup runneth over with love. Photo by Jennifer Burk
Look at these cuties. We wouldn’t mind bringing them home to meet our parents. Photo by Annie Spratt (Unsplash)
BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION
Look for a container with drainage if you want to really establish your succulents. You can plant a selection of them together or go for the statement or just do one. But the key is giving them room to grow. Feel free to get creative with you placement but make sure to space them out as many succulents not only grow larger but also can multiply.
SHOW YOUR LOVE
There is really no wrong way to showcase your succulents. My favorite ways to showcase my succulents are in either glazed ceramic planters or terra cotta planters. If you are lucky like me, to have a gardener for a mom, you get most of the pots from her stash! But you can find a great selection in the garden department of your local hardware store. Once planted, make this display as unique as you want. I like to add a few special touches to mine by using seashells, river rocks, marbles, sea glass or whatever California treasures I’ve collected.
Between us, this is a great place to add that broken dish you once loved in the dirt for some added color. Or if you want a little more pop, I love the look of adding neon aquarium rocks on top of the dirt.
CONSIDER ONLINE DATING
Some of my favorite succulents are from Home Depot (For real! And a great price)! You can also always find great options at local nurseries. My favorite for specialty gardens is Cali’s own Succulent Gardens! What a lot of people don’t realize is this is similar to online dating, you can digitally find your match! Head to Etsy, you can order bags of the clippings. And just like most relationships, you can always go back; clip from an existing succulent and re-plant. But ask if it’s not yours! :)
RELATIONSHIPS NEED WORK
Now how do you care for your succulent you ask? So easy! I like to plant mine in a cactus mix for good drainage and I water them once a week (Sundays, that’s my watering day if you are curious). And that’s it, I told you this relationship would be the easiest you’ve had! But keep in mind Succulents like Vitamin D (just like me)! So you can keep your succulents inside but make sure to let them get weekly sunlight at the least or leave them outside all the time and they will THRIVE.
IT’S NOT YOU, IT’S ME
Don’t cry if your succulent breaks off! You can re-plant it. Just stick it in the dirt and water like normal (once a week) and in about 2-3 weeks it will have re rooted itself. You will have a whole new succulent in your planter. But like any relationship that doesn’t work out, consider noting what you could do differently next time.
Now enjoy your new relationship, may it flourish!
Happy low-maintenance planting,
xo Nora

MEET JASON GRANT: STYLIST, DESIGNER AND AUTHOR
I met Jason (and his adorable Boston Terrier, Sophia) on a beautiful Saturday morning in Byron Bay, Australia. After being a fan, and following his work for many months, I was excited for the opportunity to meet IRL for coffee and talk all things design and career. After chatting for an hour and joking about making our own podcast one day, I knew Jason was someone that you all needed to meet too.

One of the many things I love about Jason is how multi-faceted he is. He’s not afraid of a challenge. to have his hands in a little bit of everything. In a world that is constantly telling you to focus on one or two things, Jason is breaking barriers and becoming a master of them all. Not only that, his laid back and good vibes make it easy for him to become one of those instant friends - right from the moment you meet.

“Style comes from within and with confidence. The best way to learn is by doing, comparison is never a good headspace and try to not limit yourself.” - Jason Grant
What’s a typical day look like for you? No one day is ever really the same but lucky I love variety.
What keeps you inspired? I’m always inspired by nature. The bush, the beach and the ocean. We are spoiled here in Australia.. the light here is magic. I love to learn and I’m always researching something. I’m also always inspired by creators and artists, often friends, who make things with their hands.
What is your style philosophy? Style comes from within and with confidence. The best way to learn is by doing. Comparison is never a good headspace. Try to not limit yourself.
What song is a “must” for a road trip playlist? “70s Roadtrip” on Spotify is the best! Generally, fun upbeat music is my vibe but I often don’t like being the DJ (in charge of the music) because I love listening to other people’s music.
What’s one thing that most people don’t know about you? I was born in Launceston (Tasmania) and grew up in Melbourne, but my career “blew up” when I lived in Bondi Beach in Sydney.
Favorite thing to do when you visit California? I love LA (and Palm Springs too!)
I have always felt at home in LA; the people, the vibe, the energy.. and I really love an America accent. It’s one of my most favourite places to visit and I have thought long and hard about living there one day (hoping my future husband-to-be will be from there maybe)
When in town I love to visit friends (I have a heap of local friends and also ex pat Aussies living in LA), go for a hike - I love the view from Griffith observatory. Of course, a little shopping (mostly vintage)
I also love the many different types of architecture in Los Angeles. I love walking the streets in certain neighbourhoods and looking at the buildings (I do this where ever I go).
What’s next for you? I have a few things happening this year 10 new paint colours to my signature paint collection with Murobond Paints, some new additions to my encaustic tile collection with Dilorenzo Tiles plus 2 exciting projects that I can’t say just yet.

Simple Styling Tips from Dulcet Creative
Amber and Kayla here of Dulcet Creative! We are here today excited to teach you a few simple styling tips that we’ve learned this year that we hope will help you with styling your images. Styling is a tool with unlimited possibilities.
Hey Est. California Readers!
Amber and Kayla here of Dulcet Creative! We are here today excited to teach you a few simple styling tips that we’ve learned this year that we hope will help you with styling your images. Styling is a tool with unlimited possibilities. If you’re a business you can use these tips to help you create a cohesive visual presence and help people to get to know you and your products better. If this is your first time souping up a shot, this will guide you through. In time, you’ll get faster and more daring as your styling mind develops! The end result will be beautiful, creative photos that not only showcase YOU, but also provide attention-grabbing images to show off in blogs, social media, newsletters or anywhere you find a promotional photo op!
#1. Choose your colors:
Choose one or two colors to weave through your scene in order to keep a cohesive visual harmony throughout your image. Choose your colors according to the message you want to convey. If you’re looking to create a fun, summer look, then use pops of bold color here and there to make a statement and use neutral colors for a more mellow, understated look. While there are times when all white on white can be visually striking, it is also fun to look for backgrounds that create contrast. So a pale colored food and plate gets a dark background whereas a vibrantly colored dish tends to be best with a simple white background.
#2. Keep it fresh:
You will rarely ever see a scene that we’ve styled without some kind of fresh element like fruit or greenery. Adding those pops of flowers or plants will breathe life into your images.
#3. Liven things up
Get a few work-in-progress shots. Bringing hands into your scene will add a human element that makes things more personal and real.
#4. Create Balance
Start simple and add more props for complexity. Play around with different lines, varieties of dark and light colors, lights and shadows, and so on until you find what you like. Your main focus will be to balance the different elements in order to create a pleasing aesthetic to the eye while keeping everything consistent with your brand and products. As always, trust your judgment and continue to step back and reassess to continually get a sense of what emotion you are looking to evoke.
Don’t be afraid to play around with white space. Set your props around the edges, or corners of your picture. This comes in handy if you ever put text over your images for website or blog purposes.

As much as I love the black bedroom look, I am equally an admirer of the white bedroom look. It's just as glamorous (in my opinion) and right now I am crushing on designer,Tompkins Lloyd. This bedroom might just be my favorite. It's a little bit French and a little bit contemporary modern. A little bit vintage and a little bit new. I always enjoy a well executed mix.
With all of the hide and fur action going on in this room, it takes the starkness up a notch and gives the element of cozy warmth. Fur can really do so much for a space. I also really love the vintage brown leather lounger paired with acrylic nesting tables. Something about that contrast looks really chic to me.
I did a bit of sourcing and found a few beautiful things that could give your bedroom this chic look.
Contemporary bed | French gilt mirror | acrylic nesting tables | modern white dresser |white mongolian bench | 1970's leather lounger | square stitched hide rug | orchid arrangements | bronze task lamp | Kelly Wearstler book HUE | No 5 Culture book | french riviera book |
HAPPY DECORATING!
EST. SPOTLIGHT: LOCAL + LEJOS
When I first discovered Local + Lejos their colorful approach had my attention immediately. Aside from the gorgeous patterns and vibrant colors, their mission left a lasting impression.
Photography By: Taylor Rainbolt
When I first discovered Local + Lejos their colorful approach had my attention immediately. Aside from the gorgeous patterns and vibrant colors, their mission left a lasting impression. Working directly with undiscovered artisans around the globe, each purchase of hand crafted goods provides an opportunity to create sustainable living. By supporting these artists, consumers have the opportunity to play a first hand role in empowering these artisans while getting a unique hand crafted piece in their home.
Founder and CEO Sheeva Sairafi's interest in culturally rich pieces began at a young age. But it was during a trip to South America, the summer after college graduation, that her appreciation turned into a passion to share. After spending time along side Peruvian weavers learning their culture, traditions and the art of crafting, Sheeva was left in awe of their unparalleled skilled. But in talking with the women, she soon understood their struggle to sell their products. Knowing these artisans needed a steady business, as they were at the mercy of tourism season, she and her sister took as many blankets back to the states as they could fit. Friends loved the items and Sheeva knew she had a unique opportunity. Local + Lejos was born to connect these talented artisans with consumers who may never have had the opportunity to find themselves abroad.
The literal meaning of their name Local {english} being or relating to a particular area and Lejos {Spanish} far away, distant was the perfect name to encompass the companies mission and purpose. Loving everything this company had to offer, We fired questions off to CEO Sheeva, to get some more insight.
What keeps you inspired?
Since starting this adventure a few months ago, I’ve met some really amazing people. This community of conscious individuals that are working to create opportunity in the world constantly inspire me. It has been so amazing to see people so interested in the mission of the company, and really care that every dollar they spend is going to something with meaning.
Favorite product you have created?
My favorite product I've created so far are woven baskets that are currently on their way from Rwanda. It was my first time working with this group of artisan women and designing baskets. Because we've had to work really hard together to get them right, these baskets truly embody the mission of Local + Lejos. By teaching the artisans new patterns and new ways to think about baskets, it has helped empower them to learn and try new things! As a bonus, the earnings from the work helped to but them chickens, goats, pigs and cows to help feed their families.
Favorite thing about Local + Lejos?
My favorite thing about Local + Lejos is that it encompasses my three biggest passions in life: beautifully designed product, business for social good, and adventurous travel.
What does “impact” mean to you?
To me, impact means something that is lasting. The mission of Local + Lejos is to create sustainable change in the communities we work with by empowering the women we employ, a powerful force that transcends outside of work and into everyday life.
How does California inspire your pieces?
The goal of Local + Lejos is to create pieces that can be used in every day life in California, so I’m inspired every day identifying products that would fit in the California lifestyle. The Striped Serape Blanket is a perfect example of this. The blanket reminds me of beach days in Venice, wine picnics in Malibu, and outdoor music listening at Coachella.
Favorite product in the line?
Right now, the Accessory Bag is my favorite product in the line. They are all one-of-a kind, unique, and so fun! I love that they can be used for almost anything, and are the perfect fun pop inside my black leather bag.
To celebrate our love of Local + Lejos and all they do, here's your chance to win some goodies! Check out the details below!

ANATOMY OF A ROOM: LOFT LIVING
Living in a Loft Residence isn't always as dreamy as it seems to be (despite the beautiful styled apartments we see in magazines). However, a large part of Los Angeles lives in lofts or studio apartments so we wanted to give a few tips on how to make the most out of your space.

Living in a Loft Residence isn't always as dreamy as it seems to be (despite the beautiful styled apartments we see in magazines). However, a large part of Los Angeles lives in lofts or studio apartments. WIth the cost of living being one of the highest in the country, this is the reality for many. But there's a lot of advantages to loft living - such as being able to display and see every piece of decor - all. at. once.
We've compiled our list of loft/studio must-haves and how YOU can get the look of a sleek, chic, loft-styled home.
Succulents – One of my favorite parts of a home is the greenery - and if it comes in the form of succulents, i'm hooked (I'm also someone who is not blessed with a green thumb). These little plants are a great way to add some life into any home.
Candles – Candles can be expensive (especially when you’re looking for a large amount to make a statement or faux fireplace). This set of pillar candles from Anthropologie is a go-to of mine because they’re budget friendly and unscented.
Faux taxidermy – If you like the taxidermy trend, minus the taxidermy part, then these faux pieces are just for you. When you’re working with the long walls along a room, it helps to use art and wall hangings to create a focal point for each “room.”
Blue and white rugs – Rugs will turn your furniture arrangements into actual rooms. This is true in any kind of home, but especially in a studio or loft.
Hanging chair – This unusual item makes every home unique. Not only is it a talking piece for those who come into your home, it tells people you love to unwind, relax and have a little fun!
Flatware & dishes - Pretty enough to entertain with, but practical for everyday use (and the dishwasher), these flatware and dishes are perfect to show off your home cooking off.

EST. SPOTLIGHT: DESIGNER, RYAN WHITE
On the rise tastemaker, Ryan White has swiftly made a lasting statement in the world of interiors. With just a couple of interior design years under his belt, Ryan continues to wow us with his sophisticated interiors and career success.
On the rise tastemaker, Ryan White has swiftly made a lasting statement in the world of interiors. With just a couple of interior design years under his belt, Ryan continues to wow with his sophisticated interiors and career success. An already noteworthy designer amongst publication giants such as Elle Décor, House Beautiful, and Traditional Home, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to meet such a talent in person. Coffee at Alfred in West Hollywood posed to be the perfect place to get an intimate account of how it feels to be designer, Ryan White.
What started as a departure from New York and a successful career in fashion as a Ford Model, Ryan relocated to Los Angeles to move in with his partner and pursue a career in acting. After a few months of living in LA and temporarily landing in a West Hollywood zip code, Ryan did not anticipate that in designing their “in-between” residence, he would not only unveil his natural talent, but true passion for interiors and design. “I knew midway through my home project, this was something I was meant to do,” Ryan says. The good thing was that, “I have close designer friends back in New York, so this world did not feel foreign.”
After completing the residence, confirmation soon came that he was on the right path. While entertaining friends at home, a couple fell in love with his design work. Work Ryan describes as “cultivated.” An aesthetic that is not existent of a specific time or place. Rather, “a well traveled space” that marries texture to new, vintage and one of a kind elements resulting in a clean, luxe and comfortable space. With this couple’s recently purchased exclusive beach home in Malibu, and desire for their space to have similar reflection, Ryan landed his first major design project and what he considers his first career break. “I was given full creative control and it was my first big project…I completely immersed myself in it,” he explains.
Continuing this past year with the same mentality of “total immersion” in his work, Ryan has become a highly sought designer. Recognized for his “keen sense of style and fashion sensibility,” he attributes this to his years spent in fashion, travels around the world and style icons James Dean and Cary Grant.
Now, not only a successful designer, but owner of his own firm, Ryan is feeling “Grateful. But overwhelmed,” in the most recent mentions of his name said amongst the likes of Nate Berkus and Kelly Wearstler as the next young emerging talent of this industry. At only 30 years old, he is prepared to keep working hard at evolving his brand. With a recent reality design pilot shot for TV, he is feeling confident this will be a phase where he can share all of his creative talents. The only difference is he says, “my thirties are for finding balance.”

EST. SPOTLIGHT: WATER MARGIN STUDIOS + GIVEAWAY!
Water Margin Studios, spawned by a sister-brother duo inspired after a trip abroad as well as the wish to get back to their craftsman roots. Mei-ling and Jonathan Hubbard, desired to make something more than simply utilitarian; something highly functional, ergonomic, well made, exceptionally beautiful, and local.
My twenties are coming to an end and my birthday is swiftly approaching. I can see my 30s coming towards me not like a freight train about to barrel me over, but like the carousel that is already in full rotation and I got to find a way to jump on quick or I’ll be left standing waiting for my next opportunity feeling like the kid that gets picked last, except its my own damn fault. In a life that is not how I pictured it, this is scary, but I have one consolation-- finally, I can unashamedly say out loud that I like exquisite foreign knives, fancy tumblers, expensive bowls, and beautiful hand crafted cutting boards.
Cue Water Margin Studios, spawned by a sister-brother duo inspired after a trip abroad as well as the wish to get back to their craftsman roots. Mei-ling and Jonathan Hubbard, desired to make something more than simply utilitarian; something highly functional, ergonomic, well made, exceptionally beautiful, and local. This led them to what other than kitchenware! Cutting boards and spurtles to be exact.
Spurtle: a flat wooden, spatula-like utensil. See below.
Water Margin Studios is located in the Los Angeles hills and one can often hear ACDC coming from the studio as Mei-ling and Jonathan design, carve, sand, and perfect their goods. The cutting boards are made in limited batches cut from the same plank of wood, each piece is unique with contrasting hardwood inlay placed to complement each boards grain. Then the finishing process begins, starting off with some sanding. “Are you hitting that with a 400?” Jonathan asks. “I’m gettin’ it with 500” Mei-ling reports. Over a period of 3 days the pieces undergo a multi-stage washing, oiling, and sanding process. Attention to detail extends to the packaging. In keeping with Japanese aesthetics, Water Margin Studios wrap each piece in their hand-dyed shibori fabric.
Okay so what is this stuff really like? GLORIOUS. I asked to hold the brownie ax. At first touch I exclaimed, “Oh my god… this feels… great.” Soft, easy to grasp, beautiful to all the senses. I felt whole-heartedly home.
And if you are as in love with these pieces as I am, keep your eye on Water Margin Studios. The siblings hope to further combine their skillsets to create slab furniture within the year.

DIY: GALLERY WALL DISPLAYS
A good gallery wall is eclectic. There is a little bit of everything but an underlying cohesive nature to the wall as a whole. So here are our tips on how to make your Gallery Wall display one of your favorites parts of your home.
I love to decorate my walls. But with so many great art prints and options to include, it can be difficult to make a decision. Its moments like this I thank the skies for gallery walls. I’ve been a fan of the style for sometime, but it isn’t always the easiest look to achieve. It can go wrong, oh so wrong. And you can be left staring at lopsided frames and holes from fallen soldiers. I have given my walls beatings and I wish I had thought it through a bit more before “eyeballing” it. But the layout is only hurdle number one.
A good gallery wall is eclectic. There is a little bit of everything but an underlying cohesive nature to the wall as a whole. That doesn’t mean limit yourself, it doesn’t have to be only pictures. You can frame fabric, quotes, images, prints, color, black and white. It’s an endless list of possibilities. The downfall to that is sometimes too many options make it difficult to come to a decision and stick with it.
Sprinkle in the added challenge of landscape vs. portrait, frame size, measurement between frames and god forbid you throw a shape in the mix; people, I am having nightmares just writing this! But fear not! I am here to give you a couple tips and examples to help you to achieve the gallery wall you have always wanted. Some samples of gallery walls done right below for you, incase you need a little creative inspiration!
FRAME IT
Framing your art can very easily and very quickly become an expensive project. Consider having one or two of your favorite pieces framed then an alternative for the others. Flea markets and goodwill are a great resource for that. Find existing art, pop out the image, spray the frames and bam! You have beautiful frames the compliment one another. Plus, variety is the spice of life!
PLAN IT
Sure life is fun when you are spontaneous. This is not the moment. Take it from someone who has lost some money due to holes in the wall. Lay your gallery out on the floor, to scale, and move your pieces around. Not sure where to start? Here’s a tip, start with your largest piece first. Build your other pieces around this as a focal point. Keep in mind large groupings of frames read better when they are tightly spaced (1-2inches) apart. Once you reach a place you feel good with, test it.
TEST IT
Once you have decided on your frames and your layout, cut down pieces of butcher paper to the same size as your frames. Using paint-safe tape, start to measure out and re-create your wall with the paper. Just because something looks good on the floor laid out doesn’t always mean it will read well staring back into your face. Not sure where to hang your first frame? Start at about 5 feet up or eye level. If your ceilings are taller or you are, you can always give it a bump up.
SHARE IT
There are lots of great gallery walls out there. Share your hard work… Cause it was hard work, wasn’t it?! Get out there and brag. And be sure to share with us. We always love giving credit where credit is due!

With the summer quickly coming to an end that means my favorite time is here: Indian Summer. A time where we bid farewell to those summer nights (And yes, I said that just like John Travolta) and get ready for the Fall approaching. These are my favorite nights. A time to reflect on the summer memories that have been had and really take in what’s left of it. With that in mind, you could be heading to one of California’s many scenic campgrounds and looking to arrive in style, or perhaps simply enjoying the nighttime ambiance on your outdoor patio. I’m sharing with you my favorite finds for the best lanterns this season to get you ready to light that candle one last time (I mean.. until next summer, at least).

PILLOW PERFECTION
If you are anything like me, you get extremely impatient in your living space. I have an overwhelming urge to constantly redecorate as soon as I am done decorating. It’s a terrible habit, I know. It’s also a very expensive habit.

If you are anything like me, you get extremely impatient in your living space. I have an overwhelming urge to constantly redecorate as soon as I am done decorating. It’s a terrible habit, I know. It’s also a very expensive habit. The easiest way to curb my decorating addiction has been through pillows. Yes, I know that doesn’t sound like it makes sense, but hear me out. By simply switching up your pillows, moving them around, playing with new and old, you can create an entirely new space!
If you are looking to freshen up and re-decorate your space, I’ve included some great ways to add some California style to your humble abode. Here are some of my favorite tricks and tips to achieving what can feel like a new space (on a small budget)… with the help of only pillows!
While sometimes a needlepoint pillow can come with a larger price tag, don’t immediately dismiss it. Investing in a good piece like this is worth it for the lifespan. If you spend the money upfront you won’t find yourself with a pillow that is falling apart and needing to be replaced. Quality lasts, which untimely stretches the dollar.
DO NOT BE AFRAID to play with patterns. What you want to keep your eye out for is how they compliment each other in color, shape, texture and size. This is the key to a perfect mix and match. Don’t be afraid to mix tribal, metallic, hand-woven, pops of color. Just go for it!!
Sometimes tossing in a couple daily reminders is good for the soul. And if you can do it with something as subtle as pillow, why not?! Not every pillow has to only have bold colors and heavy patterns. Sometimes you can let your decorating speak for you… in this case, literally!

EST SPOTLIGHT: TINI - THIS IS NOT IKEA
One of my favorite things about being a Californian is the appreciation this state has for the re-use of great furniture. Vintage represents everything Californians love: upcycling, recycling and going green.
One of my favorite things about being a Californian is the appreciation this state has for the re-use of great furniture. Vintage represents everything Californians love: upcycling, recycling and going green. Vintage shopping is the ultimate example of going green. And while you can find yourself with endless flea market options on the weekend, there is one place that does the hunting for you.
Today my little vintage dreams came true when I went to the one and only T.I.N.I. {This Is Not Ikea}. TINI is an amazing vintage store located in the heart of Los Angeles with one of a kind vintage finds from all eras. I’ve wanted to go there for some time and this weekend I made sure I made the time. And when I say it didn’t disappoint, I couldn’t be any more truthful. It was everything I had hoped it would be and more.
As I walked up the to store front, its vine covered entrance immediately had me excited. Two steps in the door and I was in love. I will warn you, when you first walk in, it can be a bit overwhelming. There is so much vintage amazingness to look at, your eyes will freak out! There is even a second floor and rooms that stretch back for days. The place is huge!
I found so many amazing treasures and the prices were not unreasonable. Check some of my favorite finds below.

Co-owners Alexis Hadjopulos and Tom Whitman began TINI as a vintage and retro online shop for those who shared in their passion of vintage finds. But when fabulous finds filled the home of Alexis, the two opened their retail space. Coming up on the fifth birthday of their Fairfax and 6th home, TINI’s finds are better than ever. If you can’t make it out to their space, you still take a look online. But trust me when I say, it’s better in person. One more thing, it gets better… if you’re in the market to really redo your space, they make house calls! Happy vintage hunting!
TINI (This is Not Ikea) is located at:
515 S Fairfax Ave,
Los Angeles, CA 90036

DIY: VINTAGE KNOB HANGER
I love vintage. I’m just gonna put it out there. It seems to put things into perspective for me. And lets be honest, perspective is always a good thing. So any time I have the chance to infuse my life with vintage elements, I’m all for it. In fact, most Californians seem to insert some vintage in their homes for that personal touch.

After moving and redecorating, I knew I needed something extra in my entryway and decided on a coat rack. Since the entry way sets the tone for your home, it should always make a statement. I think It’s a great place to start introducing those vintage elements!
But if you don’t have the space {like me} and need everything to sit flush, it can pose an issue. I began the search for a rack that sat as flush as possible to the wall. I found a great one on Etsy but something was missing. Eurkea! (see what I did there) vintage knobs. This is a great way to infuse some vintage if you don’t have much space to work with.
Here's your start!: Hit the flea markets, your local garage sales, your grandmothers house, wherever and start treasuring hunting! If a newer vintage inspired knob is your preference, check out places like Anthropologie who carry vintage inspired knobs. Give yourself some options, you can never have too many options, right? Mix them together, new and old.

My mom always taught me, if you can’t find what you want: make it yourself. So, that is exactly what I did. With my fabulous knob finds, I knew what I wanted so I called in the "Big Guns": My Papa (he still goes to the wood shop each week!) to help. My Papa was thrilled to help me and even gave me some different size options on my wood slat and styling choices. He helped sand down the wood, bevel the edges, stain the wood, drill the holes, the works! He even offered his secret weapon: the soda can hook (Thanks, Papa!)
The final touch come from styling it up. Put the pieces that make your house, a Home and you'll be so thrilled with your new Home addition (I know I was!).
We'd love to see your version of the coat rack or how you were inspired on an entryway makeover. Post using #estcalifornia or send us your pics! You might find yourself featured here on the site!
