Every year on Thanksgiving, I sit down with my most favorite loved ones and stuff my face. I load up my plate with delicious pieces of dark turkey meat, smothered with homemade gravy, creamy mashed potatoes and to-die-for sausage stuffing... I usually eat until my stomach hurts (which I know, I really shouldn't, but it's just so damn good!). And once the turkey coma hits, I nap for a few hours, and usually return for a piece of pumpkin pie (a la mode, of course).
I should feel guilty, right? I don't. Because every Thanksgiving morning, I wake up early and run in the annual 5k/10k Turkey Trot in Downtown LA.
The race activities begins Thanksgiving Day morning - starting and ending in front of City Hall in Downtown LA. You'll run along side Disney Concert Hall, MOCA and Grand Park. Runners are encouraged to dress up as Turkeys, Pilgrims or Indians to really kick off the Turkey Day Festivities! Most importantly, 97% of the proceeds go to charities that provide to those in need during the holidays, including Los Angeles Food Bank, Homeboy Industries and Brooks and Brooks Foundation. Runners can also donate by bringing non-perishable food, clothes and blankets for donation.
