Ooh La Nicoise is a blog created by friends Becca Raskind and Jessica Kinni (Bex and Jess), started after having a very bad nicoise salad experience at a prestigious restaurant in Beverly Hills. They decided to join forces and review every nicoise salad they could get their hands on, all while having fun and dressing for the occasion.
What started out as a passion project has evolved into an influential nicoise salad food blog, as their reviews have been used by hotels and restaurants to help formulate their menus and make sure that their nicoise salad is practically perfect.
We got to chat with these two foodies to talk about their adventure through Los Angeles restaurants, one nicoise salad at a time!
What do you love most about California?
California really is a magical place! You have beaches, mountains, and deserts, and people from all walks of life living together harmoniously! You can’t beat the weather, and there are countless opportunities to make your dreams come true!
What’s on your current playlist?
It’s a pretty eclectic mix with everything from Ellie Goulding to Tinashe, Kendrick Lamar, Fleetwood Mac and Taylor Swift!
What advice would you give to your 16 year old self?
To be grateful for every moment, not to wear too much makeup (you don’t need it yet), to take care of your clothes and jewelry (hello 90’s vintage), sunscreen is your best friend, watch out for gluten (we are both allergic), invest whatever you can in Google, learn what you can from everyone you come in contact with.
What advice would you give to others?
When you do something that you love, it's easy to dedicate your time to it, whether it's a blog, or an art project or any other creative endeavor, go for it and have fun!!! You never know where it may lead.
So where IS your favorite nicoise salad located?
We’ve been most excited by the unique variations of Nicoise! Palihouse made us an amazing off menu version with ponzu sauce and Little Fork’s Octopus Nicoise had us salivating for days! We also loved the chopped and tossed version at Joans on Third and the classic tasty rendition at Luna Park on La Brea.
