I spend quite a bit of time listening to new music. With the millions of songs out there, it takes some time to filter through all the different styles and sounds. Sometimes it takes days or weeks of listening to semi-good songs but when I finally stumble across a band or musician who makes me stop and think “Wow - now these guys are gonna make it”; it makes it all worth it. It’s like stumbling upon a diamond in a huge pile of dirt. A pure, rare and unique find and this week I have one of my favorite finds of the new year, Broods.
Brother & Sister duo, Caleb and Georgia Nott, are surely the next big thing to come out of New Zealand. It only took one song (produced by Joel Little - who produced Lorde's Pure Heroine album) for them to be noticed by Capital Records and get offered their first record deal, due out in August of 2014. Don’t want to wait until August? Me either! You can currently listen to their 6-song EP on Spotify or Soundcloud - or check out their first single “Bridges” on this month’s playlist.
Caleb, 21, and Georgia, 19, first started playing together when they were kids. They grew up in a musical family with three other siblings and won multiple music competitions while still in high school. Georgia’s eery and hypnotic vocals paired with beautiful three chord piano refrains and alt-pop arrangements leave the listeners wanting more. However, it took pairing up with Joel Little before they really began in refine their sound as a band. Polished up, Broods just finished touring with Brit-star Ellie Goulding and will be touring to promote their album release in the next couple months.
